I'm still finding it hard not to believe this is a parody.
You can live a long time without heat, electricity, oil.
You can live for about 2 weeks without food.
You can live 3 days without water. ;)
A "North American Union" is a strategic planning balloon, or worse, and hardly a joke to Canadians.

Do we have an exact hour the event will be held. Because it's at least 8 maybe 10 hours later in Germany than it is in San Francisco.
We're ahead in Europe so it'll probably be around 2AM in the morning for San Fran if the event is in the early morning as per the standard Apple event timing.

Normally Oprah tapes a ton of shows over the course of a few weeks, and they are edited and aired over the course of a couple months. So the idea of "tape today, show tomorrow" seems unlikely to me -- for one, they would have to be assuming Absolutely Nothing Goes Wrong during editing.
It could happen, but it seems too quick to me. Alternately, maybe they taped it earlier.

I very much would like to have seen the prices remain the same and include an AC adapter again.
If you buy this iPod and an AC adapter it is still cheaper than before.

this goes to show how behind apple is in updating.
clearly they arent ready to adapt to an intel platform. the cant even make simple processor adjustments on time!
all the major companies have made this transition.
Yes, Apple is doomed because the are few days behind in announcing their new laptops . Obviously hordes of people are rushing to buy Toshibas and Dells (which might not ship for several weeks, for all we know) as we speak, and unless Apple IMMEDIATELY updates their products, they are doomed. DOOMED I tells ya!

macpro dead in 2 years...my prediction:mad:
Probably yes, Apple has been making Mac Pro upgrades less and less frequently, so I guess it will just be a self fulfilling prophecy.
On topic, I guess I would choose the trackpad, but just because I never use Apple mice anyway (I have a fine Logitech) so for curiosity's sake, I'd take the trackpad.
Would I use it? Nope. That's what the Logitech is for. ;)

For me, working with one of the first quad core systems was amazing. No matter how many applications you run at the same time, the system reacts to user commands quickly. Some applications require half the time to finish tasks. To me, it's like being catapulted a year into the future and is unlike the past few years when computing power increased only marginally. Intel pumped out 30% more performance with Core 2 Duo and will double that again with Core 2 Quadro soon.
Seems like things bode well for Clovertown. Fingers crossed the hideously inefficient FB-DIMMS dont screw it up.

Exactly.
What a waste. You're failing to see the big picture. People willing to commit armed robbery don't go away quietly into the night once their done. They go on to commit more crimes, some of which might involve bodily harm to you or others.

After what we got at WWDC, I'm not getting my hopes up yet. My oldest Mac is just 8 months old so new processors won't mean much to me. My iPod Nano isn't full yet so not really interested in those. Could get excited about an iPhone, but only if it were in the Treo / Blackberry category as that would really help me in my work.

As others have said, it looks like it was more than a simple smash and grab...the suspects appear to have been armed. I'm sure as the day goes by we'll get more of an idea of what happened.
From the article:
Two men and woman apparently did a "smash and grab," in which glass doors and windows are broken and merchandise is grabbed quickly, CVPD Capt. Gary Facicci said.
A private armed security guard interrupted the burglars and at some point, gunfire was exchanged with the two male burglars, who were also armed, Facicci said.
The male suspects and their alleged female accomplice then got into a vehicle that crashed while still inside the shopping mall, Facicci said, noting that one of the men was driving and he died in the crash. Reports from the scene indicate he had been shot in the head.
The getaway vehicle crashed into a wall at the mall.
The second male suspect and female were arrested at the scene, Facicci said. Both were described as being in their mid-20s.

There are so many rumors about a new ipod coming in the next few weeks/months/etc, most likely announced at Paris (maybe).
That would be an awesome birthday present for me, my birthday is the 12th ;-)

You never OWNED any of this stuff. You owned the physical media, and you had an unlimited license to you. The technology is just clarifying this.
If you had actually owned it, you could have copied it as much as you wanted-- legally-- and resold the copies to others. You have been capable of doing this, but it was illegal; it also was difficult to enforce the law. Now the technology is actually starting to match your legal rights. It's actually wonderful. You are not losing anything you had legally, but the true owners (the content creators and the people who support them financially) can stop getting ripped off by criminals.
Not sure this will completely stop piracy, but it will further deter it. However if you can store it on a drive without any sort of DRM. This service will do nothing for piracy.

Who cares what color an iPod is. Shouldn't really matter. Color does not affect funtionality. What matters is what is on the inside.

It seems like if you can't beat them join them.
But it would kind of make sence for Apple and Creative to make this disappear ASAP with a paltry gesture and "join" forces in the iPod war against Microsoft and the other crappy non-iPod players out there.....
