As we all know kids can definitely be picky little eaters and at times you may feel that you just can't get it right during breakfast time. All they seem to want is something sugary like cereal or pop tarts and since your pressed for time you cave in. This may seem like the ideal choice at the time but in the end it's not the healthiest choice for your child. Due to the fact that those types of breakfasts are sugar filled your child is in taking empty calories and will probably be hungry again before snack time. After conducting some research I found healthy, yummy and quick to prepare meals that kids seem to enjoy for breakfast. Check out some kid friendly breakfasts below.
- If you are seriously pressed for time and the only option is cereal then go for a whole grain cereal with milk and topped with fruit.
- Banana Smoothie- Blend 1 cup of low fat milk, medium banana and teaspoon vanilla extract. Serve with a half of a whole wheat English muffin.
- Breakfast Berry Parfait-Layer low fat cottage cheese with whole grain cereal and fresh or frozen berries.
- Frozen whole-grain waffle sandwich with sunflower seed butter, peanut butter, or almond butter, California raisins and low fat yogurt.
- Half of a sandwich, milk and fruit
- Hard Boiled Egg, fruit and 1/2 whole wheat English muffin
- Hot Cocoa made with milk, slice of whole grain toast and a fruit
- Ice Cream Cone Parfait- Layer low-fat yogurt with sliced fruit and a crunchy whole grain cereal
- Instant oatmeal with with low fat milk, dried fruit and almonds
- Plain low fat yogurt topped with chopped walnuts, California raisins and molasses or honey
- Sliced cheddar cheese melted on top of whole grain bread or whole wheat tortilla and low sodium vegetable juice.
- Trail mix-Whole grain cereal, shelled pistachios or sunflower seeds, dried cranberries and low fat milk
- Turkey roll up with cheese on a whole wheat wrap
- Whole grain crackers, string cheese and dried figs
- Mini whole wheat bagel spread with peanut butter and drizzled with honey, orange juice with calcium and vitamin D
- Whole Wheat Graham crackers, hard boiled egg and small banana
