When on Piers Morgans new show on CNN Oprah admitted becoming pregnant at 14 and wanting to commit suicide because of her father's words.
At her mother's insistence Oprah went to leave in Nashville following her pregnancy. According to Oprah this is what her father told her, "I would rather see a daughter of mine floating down the Cumberland River than to bring shame on this family and the indecency of an illegitimate child."
When her father made this statement he didn't know his child was pregnant but due to his words Oprah thought, "Well, I'm just going to have to kill myself." She stated she tried killing herself by drinking detergent but thankfully she didn't harm herself fatally.
Oprah ending by saying, "I knew I had been given a second chance when the baby died before it could be brought home from the hospital."
