Fabulous Health Fact: Sugar & Weight Gain...

As I get older I find ways to make sure I and my family are eating more healthy.  I pay more attention to the food ingredients on all labels and white sugar especially doesn't enter my household.  I have begun to pay more attention as it has been proven that added sugars are a huge culprit when it comes to packing on the pounds. Added sugars are those that aren't natural as they are mixed in as sugar and syrups during processing or preparation.  As an example, I switched from fruit cocktails to fresh fruit, from bottled juice to Crystal Light etc.  All of these little steps helped me to get on the right path to a healthier me.

The natural sugar you find in fruit is different from the sugars you may find in soft drinks, cakes and cookies.  The sugar in fruit which is known as fructose doesn't count as an added sugar because it develops naturally within the fruit but high fructose corn syrup that's added to some fruit cocktails is definitely an added sugar.  This is why when it comes to fruit for the most part the best option would be to buy your fruit fresh. Also sweetened soft drinks, processed snacks and any other tasty treat you can think of usually has added sugar.

Now does this mean that when you have a cookie craving you should completely ignore it? The answer to that is no because then you will want to eat the whole pack when you get to it.  Instead keep your sugar intake limited.  For instance you are suppose to eat 4-6 small meals a day which includes snacks.  In between breakfast and lunch you will have a snack and in between lunch and dinner you will have another.  One of your snacks may be a sweet one but you will want to keep it at 200 calories or under and you will want to read the label and see if their are any positive health benefits like protein and how many grams of sugar it contains.  If the grams of sugar is a high one then you may want to stay away and look for a more natural sweet snack that will satisfy your craving.

You can start this process slowly like I did and you will feel the difference in your body on the inside and see the difference on the out. Remember sugar not only packs on the pounds but it will also make your body crash after to much of it.  Start paying attention to what you eat ladies as it will be beneficial to your health as well as the health of your family.

Stay Fab!
